Welcome

I want to welcome you to College of the Redwoods (CR).

CR is an exceptional learning environment in which students gain the knowledge and skills they need to be successful. We are committed to providing students an opportunity to achieve their educational goals by offering programs and services designed for students who plan to seek a transfer degree, train for immediate employment or transition to a new career.

I believe that, as a learning community, we strive to deliver quality education while ensuring that our students remain our top priority. We offer an environment that allows students to feel challenged, supported and determined—an environment in which every student can thrive and succeed.

As CR President, I appreciate this opportunity and am excited to work wonderful faculty, staff and students to make a positive change while continuing to make our college successful.

Dr. Keith Flamer

Keith Flamer

Dr. Keith Flamer was named President/Superintendent of College of the Redwoods effective April 11, 2017. He holds a Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Washington University, a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Eastern Washington, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University.

As an educational leader, he believes that it is critical to embrace diversity and remain sensitive to the needs of all students. He supports the success of those who may be differently abled or who experience social, cultural and economic orientations and backgrounds different from those experienced by faculty and staff with whom these students interact. He firmly believes that diversity is strength—and that multiculturalism is something to be celebrated, promoted, and cherished.

Over the course of his higher education career he has served in positions as Vice President, Executive Dean, Dean, and Director. He has gained experience working at Colleges and Universities, including College of the Redwoods, McHenry County College and Eastern Washington University. His breadth of experience has provided him with expertise in enrollment management, instruction, student development and support services areas.

He believes that the purpose of education is to contribute to the lives of students by developing critical and expressive thinkers and lifelong learners who are resilient, socially conscious and active citizens. To him, education is about going beyond the students' intellectual skills, seeing each one as a whole and contributing to self-discovery. "It is about giving students opportunities to be challenged and still succeed. We must hold to the belief that all students have the right to be successful, and give all students the opportunity to maximize their potential. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with people who are aware of, and sensitive to, their needs."

2019-20 President's Goals

  • Meet or exceed all ACCJC accreditation standards and eligibility requirements.
  • Address the actionable improvement plans delineated in the 2017 Institutional Self Evaluation Report.
  • Support departmental accreditation efforts (e.g. forestry, dental assisting, career education, etc.).
  • Work collaboratively with staff and faculty to provide equitable compensation packages while strengtheningthe District’s fiscal position.
  • Pursue targeted grants to support District initiatives.
  • Meet or exceed the District’s Vision for Success Goals and Institutional Effectiveness Scorecard targets.
  • Enhance the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and visitors to the campuses.
  • Ensure a constructive working relationship with the Board of Trustees in general and the President of the Board, in particular.
  • Ensure that Board members are informed and up-to-date on District related issues and Board requests.
  • Value the expertise of all members of the Board of Trustees and ensure that it is taken into consideration during the decision-making process.
  • Communicate with local and state representatives on issues important to theDistrict.
  • Maintain visibility and participation in local and state events.
  • Continue to host community events on the Eureka and Del Norte locations.
  • Continue to monitor the capital construction projects.
  • Address vacant buildings on the Eureka Campus.
  • Expand hiring practices and recruitment efforts.
  • Form community based President Advisory Group for equity and diversity.
  • Continue to support the establishment of Interest Based Approach (IBA) principles and elements in committee operations, decision-making, and individual problem solving.
  • Foster regular communication opportunities with representatives from constituent groups.
  • Continue to develop the Foundation strategic plan that supports the direction of the District.
  • Complete work on the revised Vision Statement.
  • Establish a team and strategy for development of a revised Education Master Plan.
