I came to Humboldt County for the Really Big Trees and the chance to work and teach in one of the most amazing forest ecosystems in the world. I love walking around in the woods with students, explaining the complexities and wonders of forest ecosystems and how important it is to manage them sustainably.

These forests and the comprehensive style of our program allows students to apply the solid, scientific theory they learn in lectures and labs to practical experiences outdoors. From our classrooms, students can jump right into work as forest technicians or easily transfer to a 4-year forestry program. 

Outside of teaching and research, I’ve also worked for the timber industry in the Southeast and the U.S. Forest Service in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Montana, and in California in the Klamath region.
