Five athletes from College of the Redwoods signed letters of intent on Wednesday to continue their playing careers at four-year schools next year.

Three former CR football players - Terry Tims, John Charles McDonald and Kerrick Myrks - will all head to Kansas in the fall to attend Sterling College.

Myrks, a quick defensive back, led the Corsairs with three interceptions in just eight games during the 2017 season, while McDonald was a Pacific 7 all-conference selection.

A pair of current Redwoods baseball players also committed to four-year programs.

Left-handed pitcher Dylan Campbell, a Golden Valley all-conference selection in 2017, will play at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, next year.

Catcher Hunter Jury, another all-conference selection from a year ago, will attend Bellevue University in Omaha, Nebraska.

“Campbell is a great local kid out of McKinleyville,” Redwoods baseball head coach Brad Morgan said. “This is my third year coaching him, and he’s climbed that ladder of improvement every year to get to where he is now.”

Jury, who did not join the team until just before the start of last season, is a walk-on who has made significant contributions to the Corsairs on both sides of the plate.

This season Jury leads the team in home runs, with two.

“He’s a guy who showed up last winter and made an immediate impact,” Morgan said. “He plays a major role for this team.”
