College of the Redwoods announces a public vote for its new Athletics Logo

Published on 5/2/2018.

A year ago the public voted on the new district logo for College of the Redwoods, and more than 2,500 people responded.  Now College of the Redwoods is refreshing its athletics logo and they want the North Coast’s input.

A logo committee comprised of student athletes, coaches, staff and a Board of Trustees member worked for several months to produce options for CR’s new athletics logo.

“We wanted a fresh look, more modern yet still honoring our rich athletic history with our community, a logo with movement and of course the redwoods,” said Bob Brown, Director of Athletics & Health, Kinesiology & Physical Education.

“It’s not easy finding artwork that is going to work on a helmet, a cap, various jerseys, but it was a fun process.  I’m glad coaches and student athletes got to steer the effort,” said CR football player, Noah Davis.

Now CR is asking alumni and community members of Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties to vote on the new logo CR student athletes will proudly wear throughout the state.

The results of the survey, along with recommendations from the logo committee will be presented to the Board of Trustees on June 5th.   New College of the Redwoods gear will be sold in various retail outlets around the county raising much needed funds to support CR’s twelve athletic programs.

“Now the tourists will be buying Redwoods sweatshirts as well as their Humboldt sweatshirts,” said Marty Coelho, Executive Director of College Advancement and the CR Foundation.  “We have had more than 180,000 people who have attended CR, and this new gear will allow all of them to proudly say they are “Redwoods Strong.”
