Published on 3/29/2016.

College of the Redwoods Adult Education is offering a free English as a Second Language class this April at the CR Garberville site. This is a fun series of three introductory classes in practical English for beginners. Starting on Tuesday, April 5 and running for three Tuesday afternoons through April 19th, people are invited to give English a try in a fun, easy environment.

The instructor, Doc “Ricardo” Stull is a veteran professor who has taken up the calling of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in his retirement. Stull is planning for an enjoyable set of classes saying that the classes will be, “Fun and practical. These classes won't be academic; we'll work on practical phrases, rhythm. I'll bring the guitar and make them enjoyable events." Doc has planned lessons centering on a theme each week, but says that classes can be fluid:

April 5: Words for Meeting People and Information About Yourself and Family.

April 12: Vocabulary for Getting Places, Services in the Community, Directions

April 19: Communicating About Your Health and Health Services

Free childcare is available during the class through a partnership with the Humboldt County of Education and HSU. Anyone interested in attending can register in class. This is an open entry series, so people can join any time. These free classes are on Tuesday afternoons from 4-6pm at the CR Garberville Instructional Site at 286 Sprowl Creek Road. All English Language Learners are welcome.
