August 17th 4:00pm

Published on 8/12/2022.

The College of the Redwoods Foundation is hosting a ceremony to honor three individuals being recognized through the naming of facilities at the Eureka campus.  The ceremony will take place on August 17 at 4:00 pm in the campus boardroom, located on the second floor of the Dr. Eugene Portugal Student Services & Administration Building.

The Eureka Campus’s boardroom will be renamed the “Bruce Emad Boardroom” in recognition of Trustee Emad’s years of service to the District.  The CR Board of Trustees and the CR Foundation Board hold meetings in this room.

The Light Center will be renamed the “Jim Davis Light Center” in recognition of Davis’s service as longtime president and board member of the CR Foundation.  The LIGHT (Learning Integrating Guidance with High Technology) Center provides one-on-one and small group instruction for students looking for academic assistance.  They assist with a wide range of subjects including mathematics, science, reading comprehension, writing skills and computer skills.

The Nursing Skills Lab in room AT126 in the Applied Technology building will be named the “Doris Anne Peñalosa Nursing Classroom” in recognition of her husband Fernando’s gift of $100,000 to the CR Nursing program.  Doris Peñalosa was a longtime nurse in Harbor City, California.

“Recognizing the contributions that Bruce Emad and Jim Davis had on the growth and distinction of College of the Redwoods by naming the boardroom and the Light Center after them is inspiring,” said CR President Keith Flamer. “Both of them had been committed to the quality of the work of College of the Redwoods. It is also fitting to honor the service that Doris Anne Peñalosa gave to the nursing profession by naming the nursing classroom after her.”

This event will have guest speakers, refreshments, and is open to the public.
