Apply to College of the Redwoods

In order to successfully match your financial aid application it is best to have completed the CR Admissions Application.

  •  Please note, if you do not use a Social Security Number on your application, we will not be able to match a FAFSA application to your student record.
  • For additional information regarding applications to College of the Redwoods, visit our Admissions page at https://www.redwoods.edu/admissions/GetStarted

Determine which application you should complete - the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA)

Students need to complete either the FAFSA or CADAA for each academic year that they plan to attend college

FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid (most students need to complete this version):

To be eligible to file the FAFSA, you must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident OR
  • Be classified as a “Eligible Non-Citizen

PLEASE NOTE: Students who received a Social Security Number through the Deferred Action of Childhood Arrival (DACA), and who qualify for AB540, should complete the California Dream Act Application in order to be considered for state financial aid, as they are NOT Eligible for Federal Student Aid.

CADAA - California Dream Act Application:

The California Dream Act Application is the application for students who are not eligible to file the FAFSA, but who meet certain California residency requirements. To be eligible to file the California Dream Act Application, students must:

  • NOT be eligible to file the FAFSA
  • Be a California Resident
  • Be eligible for AB540.

Complete your FAFSA or CADAA  for the correct academic year

  1. Depending on what time of the year you submit a Financial Aid Application, there may be more than one application available. Please submit the correct academic year financial aid application.
    1. 2022-2023 FAFSA or DreamAct covers Fall 2022, Spring 2023, and Summer 2023
    2. 2021-2022 FAFSA or DreamAct covers Fall 2021, Spring 2022 and Summer 2022
  2. Complete the FAFSA at: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa/ OR Complete the CADAA at: https://dream.csac.ca.gov/ .

Check your CR email address

The Financial Aid Office brings in FAFSA applications and California Dream Act applications once each week to begin the process of reviewing your financial aid file. It can take 1-2 weeks from the time you successfully complete your FAFSA for CR to receive the information. You will receive an email when CR has received your FAFSA information.

It can take an additional 3-4 weeks to determine if additional documentation is needed, or if your file can move forward in the process.  Please note that the Financial Aid Office does not begin processing FAFSA information for the upcoming year until the middle of the Spring semester. This means the students who completed the FAFSA for the upcoming academic year in October may not receive any communication from the Financial Aid Office until April.

If you have been locked out of your student email and the "forgot password" function is not working, please email: helpdesk@redwoods.edu. Make sure to include your full name and CR ID number in your message. The Financial Aid Office cannot perform student email password resets. If you have never logged into your student email before please visit the student tech help page.
