College of the Redwoods opens Resource Center and Food Pantry

A 2016 study of College of the Redwoods students found that 58% of students are experiencing food insecurity, which often includes disrupted eating patterns and lack of reliable and adequate meals (O’Neill & Mancus 2016). The College of the Redwoods Resource Center (CRRC) will be opening on the CR’s Eureka main campus to support students by providing CalFresh (formerly known as Food Stamps) application assistance and access to a food pantry.

The CRRC will be celebrating its grand opening on November 30, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. The event will include assistance with CalFresh applications, and discussions about food security and barriers to higher education.  There will also be games and snacks.

CR students, staff and faculty are encouraged to come see the center and learn more about the services. The Resource Center is in room FM 111, which is near the Quad.

Following the opening, the CRRC hours will be as follows:

Tuesdays: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Wednesdays: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Fridays: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
