Cross Country Peaking As it Enters NorCals

OROVILLE – The College of the Redwoods men’s cross country team produced another massive performance to cap a second-place finish at the Golden Valley Conference Championship in Oroville today. The Corsairs were led by sophomore Jasper Servern who finished third in a time of 22 minutes and 13 seconds. He was closely followed by a pair of freshman in Austin Imsande (22.38) and Brando Haven (22.39) who both produced a devastating finish to storm pass a string of Butte runners to earn All-Conference honors. Sophomore Gabe Best (23.33) produced another personal best for the fourth week running and was followed in by Zane Brothernton (24.14) to round out the Corsairs top five.

College of the Redwoods started a full girls team for the first time this season and was narrowly edged out for second place by College of the Siskiyous 51 -57. Amanda Viera was the top Corsairs finisher with a persona best 22.55 for ninth place, she was closely followed by Cari Leeper (23.35) in tenth. Mattison Bills (26.27), Hence Bolanos Escobar (27.09) and Nicole Narascues (31.59) rounded out the CR top five.

Coach Reed Elmore was elated by the strong performance by both teams.

“Both teams ran well today,” Elmore said. “The goal going into [the Northern California Championship] is to beat some of the bigger schools like De Anza and Santa Rosa. That’s going to help us achieve our goal of a top-seven finish at the NorCal Championship next week”.

The NorCal championship will take place Nov. 6 at Toro Park in Salinas, where CR already ran once this year. The top 10 teams will advance to the California state championship on November 22.

There was also personal best performances by Vitor Hildalgo-Ramos (24.15) and Ismael Lopez (24.40). Despite not making a strong Corsairs top seven,  the trio of Levi Seda (25.04), Addison O’ Hanen (25.55) and Hunter Mattz (26.33) all ran great to cap off a solid performance by a vastly improving  Corsairs team.
