College of the Redwoods presents Juried Student Exhibition

College of the Redwoods presents Juried Student Exhibition
The College of the Redwoods annual Juried Student Exhibition will be on exhibit from April 10 to May 4, with a public reception and awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 11 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Each spring semester, this culminating exhibition features outstanding examples of student work in ceramics, digital arts, photography, jewelry and small metals, sculpture, painting, and drawing, and also affords the campus and local community an opportunity to view and purchase artwork by some of our area's most promising emerging artists.

The jurors for this year’s exhibition are Hirsch Perlman, Professor of Sculpture at the University of California, Los Angeles and Sarah Whorf, Professor of Printmaking at Humboldt State University. The CR Art Department will be hosting an artist lecture by Professor Whorf on Monday, April 10 at 3:00 p.m. in the Creative Arts Building, Room 139.

Hirsch Perlman is a celebrated Los Angeles-based contemporary artist who works in film, stop-motion animation and photography. He implements simple materials and clichés, reworked to produce poignant and unexpected results. Sarah Whorf is a widely admired educator and printmaker based in Eureka, California. She incorporates a wide-variety of mediums and methods in her work, including woodcuts, letterpress, screen-printing and collage.

The CR 2017 Juried Student Exhibition is made possible by the generosity and continued community support of Robert and Desirée Yarber, Ingrid Nickelsen Trust, Pierson Building Center, Art Center, Fire Arts Center, Ellis Art & Engineering Supply, Holly Yashi, Abraxas Jewelers, Arcata Scrap & Salvage, Eureka Art & Frame Co, Talisman Beads, Swanlund's Camera, Phoenix Ceramic Fire Supply, Just My Type Letterpress & Paperie, Scrapper's Edge, Cynthia Hooper and Emily Silver.

The gallery is open Mondays through Thursdays 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and by appointment. Admission is free. The Creative Arts Gallery at College of the Redwoods is located on the Eureka Main Campus, North Entrance.
