College of the Redwoods offers Firearms and Arrest courses

The Law Enforcement Training Center at College of the Redwoods will be offering PC 832 Firearms and PC832 Arrest and Control courses this spring. The Firearms course is 24 hours and is scheduled for April 24-26, 2017. The Arrest and Control course is 40 hours and is scheduled for May 1-5, 2017.

A fingerprint clearance is required for anyone attending the Firearms course. The Live-Scan form is available online at http://www.redwoods.edu/aj/Forms.

Costs for the courses are $48 for the Firearms course and $121 for Arrest and Control. Students will also need to supply their own ammunition. Call the Training Center at 476-4334 for more information.

These classes are designed for "defined" peace officers other than sworn law enforcement personnel. This course satisfies PC 832 requirements for entry level. The courses are certified by State Board of Corrections Standards of Training as well as the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. The Arrest and Control curriculum covers professional orientation, laws of arrest, search and seizure, evidence, preliminary investigations, communications and arrest techniques. Because this course is designed to provide practical hands-on training in police tactics and weapon usage, participants in this course will engage in physically demanding classroom training exercises.

This certified PC 832 course, which is designed specifically for Peace Officers, does not qualify students for certification as registered guards and/or armed registered guards with the Department of Consumer Affairs.

To sign up for these courses, call the Training Center at 476-4334. Students will also need to register as a student at CR, but do not need to select a course.
