College of the Redwoods teams with local auto body shops for collision repair class

College of the Redwoods teams with local auto body shops for collision repair class

College of the Redwoods Community Education will be teaming up with local auto body shops to offer the Auto Body Collision Repair Course, beginning on September 12. CR Community Ed developed the course in collaboration with Myrtletown Auto Body, Quality Body Works, Fred’s Body Shop, and Richard Borough from Master-Mind Alliance.

Students will be trained in all aspects of the auto body collision repair industry including safety, estimating, detailing, paint preparation, removing and replacement of parts, frame rack setup and measuring techniques, weld on panels and suspension and alignments, body and dent repair, prepping, and masking for paint. The class will also include “externships” which are hands-on learning experiences in local auto body shops. A total of 7 body shops will participate.

The course will be taught by instructor Tracy Rice, from Myrtletown Auto Body, at the CR Community Education building on 525 D Street in downtown Eureka.

The class dates are from September 12 to December 19 on Tuesday and Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The externship dates are from September 19 to December 19 on Tuesday and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to noon, and Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The fee for this class is $500 and includes instruction and materials.

There will be free informational meetings held on August 16 and 30 at 6:00 p.m. at the CR Community Education location.
