College of the Redwoods accreditation reaffirmed

College of the Redwoods received notice Friday that its accreditation has been reaffirmed by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) for seven years, the longest period of time allowed by the Commission for colleges to maintain accredited status.

“The Commission’s action is a clear and powerful statement. It is an affirmation of the strength and stability of College of the Redwoods and a recognition of the excellent work our board of trustees, faculty, staff, and administrators are doing to serve our students and our community. We could not be more proud,” said CR President/Superintendent Dr. Keith Snow-Flamer.

The nineteen-member commission based its action on a comprehensive report issued by a team of community college presidents, administrators, and faculty who visited CR in October and evaluated district wide every aspect of the college, from the quality of education to financial management to facilities planning to student support services.  The team’s report included several commendations for excellence and some recommendations for improvements.

CR Board President Carol Mathews said, “The Board of Trustees is very gratified by the ACCJC decision and acknowledges the dedication of the college community to serve our students.”

While the Commission’s action is a significant achievement for CR, Dr. Snow-Flamer says the college community is not resting on its laurels.  “While we’re all grateful to receive the proverbial ‘clean bill of health’ from the Commission, every employee of this college is steadfastly committed to continuous quality improvement. We are diligently moving forward with a number of exciting new initiatives that serve our communities, and we are determined to be a better college every day.  The Commission’s action is recognition of this,” he said.
