College of the Redwoods presents annual Juried Student Exhibition

The College of the Redwoods annual Juried Student Exhibition will be on exhibit from April 17 to May 3, with a public reception and awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 17 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Each spring semester, this culminating exhibition features outstanding examples of student work in ceramics, photography, jewelry and small metals, sculpture, painting, watercolor and drawing, and also affords the campus and local community an opportunity to view and purchase artwork by some of our local region’s most promising emerging artists.

The juror for this year’s exhibition is Stephen Natchtigall, Assistant Professor of Digital Arts at Humboldt State University. The CR Art Department will be hosting a free public lecture by Professor Natchtigall on Tuesday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Creative Arts Building, Room 139.

Stephen Nachtigall, originally from Calgary, Canada, is a visual artist working in Arcata, California. He has exhibited throughout Canada, the United States, Scotland and Germany. He received a BFA in Sculpture from the Alberta College of Art + Design and an MFA from the University of Oregon. His work considers the way in which we relate to things like plants from a mediated perspective, utilizing video, animation, sculptural installation and 2D work to ultimately seek an equitable relationship between human and non-human.

The CR 2018 Juried Student Exhibition is made possible by the continued community support of our generous donors: Robert and Desirée Yarber, The Ingrid Nickelsen Trust, Pierson Building Center, Art Center, Arcata Scrap & Salvage, Emily Silver, Cynthia Hooper, Parasol Arts, Fire Arts Center, Holly Yashi, Fire and Light Originals, Ellis Art & Engineering Supply, Eureka Art & Frame Co., Just My Type Letterpress Paperie, Abraxas Jewelers, Phoenix Ceramic & Fire Supply, Talisman Beads, Dick Taylor Chocolates, Brio Breadworks and others.

The gallery is open Monday and Tuesday 10 – 5, Wednesday 12-5, and Thursday 12-2:30. Admission is always free. The Creative Arts Gallery at College of the Redwoods is located on the Eureka Main Campus, North Entrance. For more information, call the Creative Arts Gallery at (707) 476-4100 ext. 4869.
