New Session - College of the Redwoods Truck Driver Training Program

New Session - College of the Redwoods Truck Driver Training Program

College of the Redwoods is once again offering another session of its highly respected truck driver training program. Only eight students will be accepted into the session, so spots are extremely limited.  In order to be considered for the program, one must attend an informational meeting on either May 22, 24, 29 or 31 from 5:30pm-7:30pm at CR’s Downtown site at 525 D Street in Eureka.

Those accepted into the truck driver training program will be learning on CR’s new 2018 instructional Peterbilt truck/tractor with a new 2017 Western Flatbed Trailer. Students will be training on the most current transmission available. Students will receive behind-the-wheel training with a 13-speed transmission which will ready them to drive the newest years of trucks and equip them to drive older models, such as a 10-speed transmission, as well. Participants will learn about the gauges and instruments; pre-trip inspection and safety; proper shifting techniques; brake systems and adjustments; legal paperwork, how to seek employment and DMV Warm-up and driving test.

There is a high demand for Class A Truck Drivers locally, statewide and nationally. According to the Labor Market Information Division of the CA Employment Development Department there are 3,230 new jobs [each year], 2,430 replacement jobs per year; and over the next 2 years there will be 11,320 truck driving positions open. For the North Coast Region which includes Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake and Mendocino counties 330 positions are expected over the next 10 years.
