Brad Curtis to be honored at 15th annual CR Dinner & Sports Auction

The 15th annual College of the Redwoods Athletics Dinner and Sports Auction will be held on Thursday, August 9th at the CR Gymnasium.  The Dinner and Sports Auction is a benefit for CR student athletes and their sports programs.

The event kicks off at 5:30pm with a no-host social and silent auction, dinner and speakers at 6:30pm with the live auction to follow.  This year’s event will highlight Brad Curtis (Spinas) as the honoree and featured speaker.

Brad Curtis is a 4th generation Eureka native who attended Worthington Elementary, Zane Middle School, Eureka High, College of the Redwoods, and Humboldt State University.

In 1970 and 71, he quarterbacked CR to a State Championship and two Golden Valley Conference championships. This led to the longest consecutive win streak in CR football, lasting 20 games. He was also an outfielder for CR’s first GVC championship baseball team.

Brad’s professional career is filled with outstanding accomplishments. While living in Seattle, Brad worked as a professional singing actor, voiceover commercial talent, sang on cruise ships, toured the country for three years in a Western Vaudeville show, and began his own private voice studio, teaching voice to students.

His diversity of success continued with stints as a radio DJ with KINS and a TV news anchor with KIEM TV.  He continues to narrate film documentaries and was the principal narrator for an Emmy nominated documentary on PBS called “Pioneers in Aviation: The Race to the Moon.”

Brad lives in Eureka with his wife Cathy and they co-own Parasol Arts-Paint Your Own Pottery and Mosaics.  He is the Sales Manager for Blarney Publishing which produces the 101 Things to Do in Humboldt Magazine.  He has previously been inducted into both the Eureka High and the CR Athletic Halls of Fame.

Tickets for the Dinner and Sports Auction are $600 for a table of ten or $500 for a table of eight, or $65 per person.  Tickets can be obtained by calling the CR Athletic Department at 476-4213.
