Women’s team

The College of the Redwoods women’s soccer team scored at will against visiting Mendocino College, winning 11-0 at home Tuesday afternoon.

“I’m proud of this group and how unafraid they are to accept a challenge,” Redwoods head coach Julio Ayala said. “They already have a terrific team chemistry and they have good confidence every time they take the field.”

Jayden Johnson and Jennifer Murillo led Redwoods (2-0) with three goals each in the win. The Corsairs will continue their preseason action on Friday when they face Santa Rosa Junior College, on the road in Santa Rosa at 12 p.m.

Men’s team

The College of the Redwoods men’s soccer team continued to struggle to find offensive consistency as it fell to Mendocino 3-0 at home Tuesday afternoon.

“We’ve been having a hard time finishing when we get ourselves into scoring positions,” Redwoods head coach Kyle Van Dyke said. “We’ve done a good job at getting into the front third of the field and giving ourselves a chance to score but we just haven’t finished.”

Redwoods (0-3-2) has yet to win a game in the preseason and with two weeks remaining before league play begins Van Dyke said he’s confident his team will get rolling offensively once it see’s a shot find the back of the net.

“Once we see one go in, it’ll open the flood gates and we’ll be alright,” Van Dyke said.

Redwoods take the pitch again on September 14 at 4 p.m. when it faces the College of Marin in Kentfield.
