College of the Redwoods students took home the top 2 prizes in a local sculpture competition this month. The Morris Graves Museum hosted its 24th annual "Junque Arte" show, on display from October 6 to December 3. The show focuses on work that is made entirely from reclaimed and recycled materials.
CR student Michael Rude won first place, and CR student Dennis Houghton won second place. All twelve of CR instructor Benjamin Funke’s Introduction to Sculpture students were accepted into this highly competitive exhibition.
“In addition to the lessons learned in the classroom about fabrication, design, composition, and material usage, I was able to facilitate a professional opportunity for them” said Funke. “We are fortunate to have a local institution like the Morris Graves Museum. I am extremely proud of all of my students for participating in a competitive exhibition.”
Funke was also selected as a judge for this year’s "Kinetic Kouture" fashion show that took place on Oct. 6 at the Morris Graves Museum.
