College of the Redwoods trustee elected to 2nd term

College of the Redwoods announced that Carol Mathews has been elected to a second term as Trustee for Area 3, Del Norte County.  Ms. Mathews ran unopposed in this year’s election, and was sworn in at the CR Board of Trustees meeting on Dec. 11, 2018.

“As the Area 3 Trustee, I represent the Del Norte community and its students, as well as the District as a whole” said Mathews.  “I am a former faculty member at CR Del Norte, therefore I understand the uniqueness and strengths of our Del Norte campus and support its vital role in our District.”

“I am proud that the Board of Trustees and the administration continue to work in an open and transparent a way.  We have a strong board with a strong working relationship with President Keith Flamer.”

When asked about her focus for the upcoming year, Trustee Mathews said her focus this year will be on ensuring the fiscal stability of the college, including maximizing revenue, and the implementation of programs and services to improve students' success. 

“All of the Board's work on behalf of the College focuses on our most important function of supporting students to be successful in their education” said Mathews.  “We proudly support the new Redwoods Room and Board Scholarship Fund which provides housing and meals to some of CR’s homeless students.  The College has been committed to our students facing housing and food insecurity.  We have opened up our showers, and laundry facilities on the Eureka Campus, and we will have Food Pantries in Del Norte, Eureka and Hoopa.  The Redwoods Scholarship is the next step in providing this critical support.”

The Redwoods Community College district is governed by a locally-elected 7 member Board of Trustees. These community members offer their time and talent to ensure that College of the Redwoods remains responsive to local community needs as well as true to its mission and vision.
