CR Softball splits final two on road trip

Amy Reyes continued to pack a punch at the plate for the Corsairs, who split another softball doubleheader on Saturday, beating American River 9-8 before falling to San Mateo 17-3 in five innings.

Both games were played at San Mateo College and the Corsairs are now 7-4.

Reyes, a returning all-conference sophomore, has been sensational through the early season, and added three more hits, including a double and an RBI, in Saturday’s win.

Eureka’s Karyn Jensen also had two hits and two RBIs in the win, while Grace Rosebrook, Samantha Caughie, Sadie Wilkinson and Paige Johnson each had a hit, with Wilkinson and Johnson also driving in a pair of runs.

The Corsairs scored three times in the first and six more in the third to open up a 9-4 lead, but had to hold on as the American River women clawed their way back.

Lindsey Scott pitched the win, striking out four and walking five.

In game two, Rosebrook led the way at the plate with a pair of hits, while Caughie, Jensen and Jaycee Morais each had a hit, with Jensen driving in a run and Morais two.

Calissa Stokesberry took the loss in the pitcher’s circle, striking out two and walking five.

Next up, the Corsairs play a doubleheader at Ohlone on Friday.
