College of the Redwoods/CAL FIRE Wildland Firefighter Academy Graduates Find Employment

College of the Redwoods and CAL FIRE are very excited to announce preliminary hiring success for this year’s Wildland Firefighter Academy graduates.  Over half of the 27 graduates have accepted jobs with CAL FIRE, just two months after successful completion of the Academy.

Fifteen graduates from the recently completed College of the Redwoods/CAL FIRE Wildland Firefighter Academy #2 have accepted jobs with CAL FIRE.  Eight will be going to the Humboldt-Del Norte Unit, three to the Mendocino Unit, two to the Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit, one to the Siskiyou Unit and one to the Madera-Mariposa Unit.  Additionally, two students from Academy #1 have accepted jobs in the Humboldt Unit and the Lassen-Modoc Unit.

College of the Redwoods continues to look for opportunities to serve the District.  We do that both with existing and traditional educational pathways, but also by partnering with other agencies such as CAL FIRE.  Those partnerships utilize the facilities and capabilities of the respective agencies to the best advantage both for the taxpayers and the students.

College of the Redwoods Trustee Tom Ross said, “I’m proud of the Wildland Firefighter Academy graduates and what can be achieved by College of the Redwoods partnering with CAL FIRE to provide needed training and employment for our community.”
