The College of the Redwoods Athletic department is pleased to formally announce the addition of Intercollegiate Men’s and Women’s wrestling starting in the fall of 2023. The programs will compete in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) and be sponsored in the Big 8 athletic conference.
“We are extremely excited to be moving forward with the implementation of both these wrestling programs,” said CR Athletics Director Bob Brown. “It will be the first time for a women’s program and the revival of the men’s program after a more than 40 year absence from competition.”
The department will start initial recruitment a coaching staff for each program this fall and then plan off-season conditioning for new student recruits starting in the spring semester of 2023. The Men’s program will start competition in the fall of 2023 and the Women’s season will commence in the spring of 2024.
“I am extremely excited and pleased that College of the Redwoods will add a new women’s wrestling program and reintroduce men’s wrestling to our list of intercollegiate sports,” said CR President Keith Flamer. “I believe that starting a women’s and men’s wrestling program at CR in 2023-24 is the next exciting part of our commitment to women’s athletics and providing a place where local men and women high school athletes can continue competing while earning a college degree.”
