CR cross-country coach Reed Elmore, along with the Humboldt Redwoods Running Association for Youth (HRRAY) have been holding Cross-Country Clinics as part of an ongoing effort to get more youth of all backgrounds involved with sports in general and cross-country specifically. CR hosted a meet on campus on October the 4th.
HRRAY is a youth running association for Humboldt County kindergarten to 8th grade runners that allows all youth runners to participate in the fall cross-country races and spring track races, even when they do not have a team at their school.
The group was started when coaches recognized that many students from smaller or more rural areas were not given the opportunity to participate in cross-country and track and field because there was no program at their schools. Getting students involved in sports can help them develop leadership, accountability, friendly rivalry, and camaraderie.
In 2019, HRRAY was awarded Youth Track Club of the Year for the nation by Road Runners Club of America.
