Petra Lorenzi was named head women's volleyball coach for the Corsairs in the spring of 2017 following a stellar playing career at both the high school and Division I collegiate level. Lorenzi, a 2005 Del Norte High School graduate, was a three-sport athlete at Del Norte High School. She was a member of four consecutive Big Five Conference championship volleyball teams. In addition, Lorenzi was also a pitcher/shortstop for the first Del Norte Big 5 conference championship softball team.
Lorenzi's earned a full-ride scholarship to the University of South Carolina Volleyball Team. Recruited as a setter, Lorenzi played both setter and defensive specialist for the Gamecocks in the Southeastern Conference for four seasons (2005-2009) where she finished her collegiate career 10th on the school's all-time career assist list with 1,248. She was named team captain in the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Following her playing career at the University of South Carolina, Lorenzi played one season overseas for Llaneras of Toa Baja in Puerto Rico, where she was a member of the Liga de Voleibol Superior Femenino championship team.
Lorenzi earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina. Although this is her first head coaching position, Lorenzi is no stranger to the sideline, having coached club volleyball following her playing career while also serving as the assistant head coach for one season with the Del Norte Warriors volleyball and softball programs.
