College of the Redwoods to offer state security guard training May 16 to June 27

Published on 5/4/2017.

College of the Redwoods Community Education will offer State of California-approved Security Guard training May 16 through June 27 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Classes will be offered at the CR instructional site located at 333 6th Street in Eureka. Class instruction will be provided by Dan Kistler, a Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) approved instructor with a 40-year career in law enforcement. CPR training and certification is a component of this course and will be provided by Linda Scales on Saturday, May 20.

Students completing the 40-hour Security Guard training program, and upon completion of a successful criminal history background check, will meet the qualifications to receive a BSIS Security Guard Registration card in the state of California.

CR is offering this training to meet California’s need for trained security officers. Security guard training provides employment opportunities for conducting security patrols, access controls, traffic and parking controls, law and order duties, as well as security and fire safety surveillance. Trained security guards work in a variety of venues to include the federal government, private businesses, schools, casinos, and hospitals.

“This course will educate prospective security officers in the latest protocols and techniques to keep staff, property and other valuables safe,” stated instructor Kistler. “This is an opportunity for those interested in working in the field of security to pursue a rewarding career.”

The cost of the course is $595 and scholarships may be available for those eligible.
