CR's New Multi-Disciplinary Tiny House Project Started Today!

Published on 1/22/2019.

College of the Redwoods’ new and genuinely unique multi-disciplinary three semester Tiny House Project got underway today.  This Spring semester, seven welding students, comprised of three women and four men, with expert guidance from Professor Danny Walker and Assistant Professor Jerry Goodrow, will fabricate a 20-foot steel trailer that will serve as the foundation for a tiny house. Next fall, the Residential Construction program will build a fully functional and livable tiny house on top of the trailer. The Art Department will put final touches on the house with an interior design class focused on sustainability and eco-friendly spaces in the following spring semester.

Thanks go to O&M Industries and BT Metals for providing over two thousand pounds of steel needed for the trailer, Kevin Bradley of Kreations for his willingness to speak to our students about prepping and painting metal, and Dean Kerry Mayer for her support to allocate Strong Workforce money toward this project.
