Congratulations to two College of the Redwoods students, Armida Martínez and Evelyn Miranda García, for receiving $500 scholarships from Cumbre Humboldt. Armida worked as a medical assistant and at prenatal clinics for several years before returning to school to pursue a nursing degree. Evelyn works as a caregiver at the Timber Ridge Care facility.
The $500 award will help Armida and Evelyn will help assure their educational success at CR. Lucy Salazar, President of Cumbre Humboldt was quoted in the January 22, 2022 Times Standard as saying “The award is looking for people who have that drive to succeed…You could just tell with all of these ladies that they really have their eyes on the prize, and that’s exactly what we’re looking for.”
The mission of Cumbre Humboldt is to seek and promote educational and enriching opportunities for Latinx families and individuals throughout Humboldt County. If you don’t know, CUMBRE defines the core principles that the organization encourages within the Latinx community:

B = Balance
R = Respect
E = Empathy
