Special Meeting of the Audit and Financial Committee

Land Acknowledgement:  Trustee Dr. Mullery read the District’s formal statement that recognizes our area’s Indigenous Peoples as the original stewards of the land that College of the Redwoods occupies.

We acknowledge that the land on which we are gathered today is unceded territory of the Wiyot people who continue to live and thrive on this land today. It is surrounded by the traditional, ancestral, and present homeland of several indigenous nations including the Hupa, Karuk, Mattole, Tolowa, Wailaki, and Yurok that make up Humboldt and Del Norte Counties.

Action/Discussion Items

Of particular note are the following:

  • The District’s 50% Law calculation shows that 52.17 percent of our general fund expenditures were spent on instruction. (page 56 and 57 in the Audit Report)
  • The auditors issued an unmodified opinion on the District’s internal controls, federal awards and state awards. Furthermore, there were no financial statement findings for the year ending June 30, 2021.(page 68)
  • We are positioned to capitalize on opportunities in the future should the long-term decline in enrollments eventually be reversed. (page 10)
  • College of the Redwoods is considered a low risk institution based on this phenomenal audit.
