Inaugural President’s Advisory Committee on Diversity

Published on 8/8/2016.

I am working with Renee Saucedo, our new Director of Student Equity and Success, to form a President’s Advisory Committee on Diversity comprised of representatives from several  underrepresented groups in our region.  My intent in forming this advisory committee to advise me and my District leadership colleagues on matters related to diversity at the College and our service area.  The committee will also be an invaluable resource for information and perspective on institutional and community diversity issues and help as we work together to achieve our equity and diversity aspirations.  Because this committee is advisory in nature, it will not make or enforce policy.

Our first meeting is scheduled for August 30, 2016. Initially the committee is expected to meet once every two -three months.

I am very happy that the following strong community leaders agreed to participate on this extremely important advisory committee:

Cheryl Seidner, Wiyot Tribe

Jim McQuillen, Education Director for Yurok Tribe

Erica Chase, Education Director for Hoopa Tribe

Thomas Joseph, Hoopa Tribe

Liz Smith, Boys & Girls Club and NAACP

Grecia Rojas, Del Norte

Cesar Abarca, Humboldt State University

Marisol Ruiz, Humboldt State University

Lonyx Landry, Karuk Tribe and Humboldt State University

Jolene Gates, Hoopa Career and Technical Education Program, Hoopa

Renee Saucedo, College of the Redwoods
