CR wants you to succeed!

By taking advantage of a wide variety of learning opportunities from the very beginning of your college career, you can increase your chances of success. Following are the many support services and activities available to you at CR.

Welcome Center

Visit the Welcome Center to get help with General Admission, Advising, Financial Aid questions, student accounts login issues, WebAdvisor navigation and Issuing Student ID cards. The WC is also a great starting point for general questions about College of the Redwoods for current and potential students! 

The Welcome Center is located in the first floor of the Student Services building, within Counseling and Advising.

Academic Support Center 

The Academic Support Center provides tutoring and test proctoring services. Tutoring is available in-person and online in a variety of subjects. Test proctoring is available with your instructor’s approval or with a DSPS accommodation.

Adult Education

The Adult Education program offers non-credit instruction in a variety of courses that can assist students in reaching their personal and professional goals. Noncredit courses are intended to provide students with lifelong learning, college transfer and career preparation opportunities.

Basic Needs Center

Our program is open to all currently enrolled CR students with unmet financial aid need. Specific services may have additional eligilibity requirements.

Business Office  

The CR Business Office is available to support both students and employees. CalWorks

California Work Opportunity & Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) is a state-funded Welfare-to-Work program designed to assist student parents who are receiving cash assistance (TANF). CalWORKs students receive specialized academic advising, assistance with transportation, support with school supplies, work study jobs, and referrals to supportive services.

Career Center

College of the Redwoods Career Center assists students with access to career exploration and planning resources, including one-on-one resume and interview prep while also providing employers with qualified applicants via our Job Board. Students may also earn CSU-transferable units via internships or paid employment with Cooperative Work Experience Education.

Complaint Process

The student complaint process at CR falls under three categories: non academic, unlawful discrimination or grade change. If an issue is not resolved through the College of the Redwoods Student Complaint Process, you may have additional options.

Counseling and Advising

Counseling Services provides students access to professional counselors who can assist with a variety of needs including academic and mental health counseling. 

Academic advisors can help students create or update a student education plan, select classes based on individual goals, discuss transfer, articulation, and general career plans. For more information on how to schedule an appointment please visit our website or call the number listed below.

CR Public Safety 

CRPS is here to serve and protect, ensuring a safe campus for all. Providing respect, dignity, and assistance at every opportunity. We preserve safety through preventive planning, investigations and enforcement services. Reach a security officer on duty 24/7, 365 days a year.

Dental Health Center

The CR Dental Health Center provides reduced cost dental services performed by a licensed dentist and registered dental hygienist being assisted by students enrolled in the Dental Assisting Program. Our services are available to the community; we do however give priority to students and staff of the College of the Redwoods. We do not provide emergency care and appointments are required.

Dining Services

Dining Services runs the CR Cafe which serves a variety of cuisines for people of all tastes. The Café has a menu which serves food to order meals. The Café also has a convenience store where you can buy drinks, snacks and sundries.

Disability Services and Programs for Student (DSPS)

EOPS/CARE

EOPS is a state-funded student success program designed to support students disadvantaged by economic and educational barriers. Services include book vouchers, grants, transportation assistance, specialized counseling and advising, priority registration and more.

CARE is a supplemental program to EOPS designed to provide extra help to single parents receiving cash aid.

NextUp is a supplemental program to EOPS designed to support current and former foster youth.

Farm Share

The College of the Redwoods' Certified Organic Farm in Shively is here to teach sustainable agricultural practices in plant science, animal science, and agribusiness through hands-on learning. Fresh organic produce from the farm is available through our CSA program and farm stand. We accept all forms of payment and EBT.

Foster & Kinship Care Education Program  

The College of the Redwoods FKCE program works with the Humboldt and Del Norte County Department of Health & Human Services, Child Welfare Divisions to provide training and support for the resource families in the county. The FKCE program provides caregivers with continuing education training on topics such as understanding attachment and bonding, helping children who have experienced trauma, impacts of grief and loss, positive discipline methods, advocating for children in the education system, and working with child welfare.

Honors Program

CR's NSLS chapter operates asynchronously online, as well as hosting in-person events on and off campus. Students work toward leadership and empowerment goals by attending workshops to learn communication, leadership, and team-building skills. They connect with each other to share support, motivation, ideas, and information. NSLS membership offers benefits such as: 

  • Scholarships & Awards: NSLS members have access to over a quarter-million dollars in exclusive scholarships and awards. 
  • Job Bank: Members can apply to jobs/internships and have access to employers seeking to hire NSLS members. 
  • Professional Communication Training: A professionally administered communication assessment tool (DISC) helps to identify communication style, recognize and appreciate other styles, and prepares how to interact effectively with others. 
  • Partner Discounts & Benefits: Discounts on many retail goods and services. 
  • Custom Recommendations: Members receive personalized letters for graduate admissions officers and employers. 
  • Nationwide Network: Members will join over a million members at over 650 colleges in a network of support and motivation.

International Students

College of the Redwoods welcomes international students who are attending college for the first time or are transferring from another school within the United States. CR offers international students comprehensive support that includes assistance with the application process, academic advising, practical training opportunities and peer assistance throughout their educational endeavors.

Library/Learning Resource Center 

The CR Library is a one stop source for research materials and assistance, with faculty librarians and library staff available to help you. Databases and online resources are available 24/7. Library faculty provide research assistance via chat, phone, and email; and staff are available to answer questions about borrowing reserve materials for classes including textbooks, computers, and more.

MEC Ambassadors will be available at times to be determined through Zoom to chat with students and to provide awareness of resources. The MEC Schedule (Club Meetings, Connections times, and other Ambassador times) will be available when school resumes on the website and via social media.

Parking & Transportation

Eureka Campus parking enforcement is handled through the CR Public Safety. Citations are issued to those in violation of Parking regulations. Semester, Annual and Summer Session permits are available to purchase online. Go to MyCampusPermit.com/Redwoods and follow the instructions. If you are a Student you are required to use your @mycr.redwoods.edu email address in order to purchase a parking permit.

Residence Halls / Housing

At the CR Residence Halls, you will meet other students with diverse backgrounds, varied interests, and some of whom may become lifelong friends. We are a small, close-knit community where support and guidance can be found around every corner. The Housing Office is here to help with any issue that may arise, as well as offer a wealth of information about community and campus life. There are friendly staff to help make your stay in the CR Residence Halls as positive and memorable as possible. In addition, residents have access to onsite laundry in each building, evening weightroom hours, free admissions to CR events, and only a 5-minute walk to all classes.

Upward Bound

Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from: income eligible families and families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. The high schools we serve are: Castle Rock Charter School, Del Norte High School, East High School, Eureka High School, Fortuna Union High School, and Pacific View Charter School.
