Football earns first PAC-7 Conference win at Yuba College

MARYSVILLE – The College of the Redwoods football team blocked its third punt in the last two games and recovered another fumble to power the Corsairs to a decisive 40-24 conference win at Yuba on Saturday.

Redwoods improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the American - Pacific 7 Conference. CR has a bye next week and will host San Jose City College on Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. in Community Stadium.

The Corsairs have recovered seven fumbles on the season, which ranks fifth in the state. The Redwoods offense finally found its groove, too, scoring 40 points and draining the clock on the final drive to put the game away.

Holding on to a 10-point lead late in the game, Redwoods turned to its ground game and ran six minutes off the clock before punching in the game-clinching score.

"The offense executed like we are capable of and the defense led us again," said CR head coach Frank Borba. "We weren't perfect, though. We're going to use the upcoming bye week to evaluate what's been working and what hasn't, and we'll look to come out strong against a good San Jose club in front of our hometown fans."
