Volleyball gets back to winning, tops Siskiyous in 4
WEED –The College of the Redwoods women’s volleyball team built on its strong showing earlier this week to the defending conference champion and got contributions from a variety of players en route to a road win Friday against Siskiyous (25-23, 24-26, 25-21, 25-20).
After dropping its previous two games, including a hard-fought loss to six-time defending GVC champ Feather River on Wednesday, Redwoods (6-5 overall, 1-2 Golden Valley Conference) defeated Siskiyous (15-4 overall) with freshman middle blocker Sarah Levi battling through flu-like symptoms. Levi played only two sets but led the team with two blocks and perhaps more importantly helped provide an emotional spark for CR.
“Sarah’s health is first and foremost, but it definitely said something about her and this team that she played,” said CR head coach Oceana Matsubu. “It sent a message and gave us a lift. Some other players had an opportunity, too, and they stepped up.”
Angie Petelo led CR with 24 kills on 51 attempts, followed by Bella Ibarra with 16 of 42. Taylor Yancey had 61 assists and Aleksandria Funk had 22 digs. Redwoods plays at Shasta today at 1 p.m.
