A career inventory is a questionnaire that can help you discover new career possibilities which are compatible with your interests, aptitudes, and employment needs. Use any Internet accessible computer -- at home, the library, or the Career Center - to take the following career inventories:

  • Career or major finder: Career Cafe. Assess your interests and find careers and majors that match. Print a summary to take to your career counselor for further discussion.
  • Motivational Appraisal of Personal Potential: www.assessment.com/
Assess the strength of your motivations, and what makes you want to work.
  • Keirsey Termperament & Character Web Site: www.keirsey.com/
Determine your temperament type and how it will affect your career satisfaction.
  • Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator and The New Enneagram Test:www.9types.com/
Again, not specifically a career test, but suggests a basic personality orientation for each of us, which can be viewed in relation to career possibilities. You may explore careers which seem compatible with your basic "enneagram" type.

Remember: The best way to use your results to a career inventory is to follow-up by gathering information about occupations. Use any one of the "Occupational Exploration" links on this page to explore careers compatible with your results.

AmeriCorps
www.americorps.gov/

AmeriCorps is a federal employment program which offers a broad array of work experience opportunities. The program may partner with local or other national agencies, including the Student Conservation Association (see "Other Important Links for Student Employment"). The AmeriCorps website provides listings of program opportunities by state. Two of the larger AmeriCorps programs in Humboldt County are organized by local community organizations: the Redwood Community Action Agency, working with youth and building healthy communities on the North Coast; and natural resources conservation programs through the Watershed Stewards projects. Check with these organizations for information on applying -- applications for our local programs are generally accepted twice a year on a rotating basis.
