The Theory and Practice of Linking Courses and Team Teaching

This workshop is intended for faculty who are:
• Interested in linking their course with another, related course
• Intrigued about the prospect of team-teaching
• Curious about pedagogical theory and practice
Please join George Potamianos and Pete Blakemore as they describe their many years of combining two GE courses, History 9 – US History from 1865 and English 1A – Analytical Reading & Writing.
George and Pete will explain where their ideas for linking and team-teaching these courses came from and what they have discovered about teaching critical thinking, research, reading, and writing through history. The presentation will also recount their experience as the two courses evolved into a single class and how they have applied their discoveries to improve critical thinking, meet GE outcomes, and challenge the role of higher education in society.
This talk will focus entirely on pedagogical theory and practice and should lead to a healthy, stimulating professional discussion. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
