These programs can be useful for people who are just starting their careers, as well as for people who already have years of experience and want to boost their skills, or are looking for a mid-life career change.

1 Semester

This certificate can be obtained in 1 Semester

Since 1966, College of the Redwoods has proudly offered our Basic Law Enforcement Academy, also known as the Police Academy. We have produced more than 3,738 peace officers. Today, the Academy is presented in a modular format and is offered in spring and again in fall.

The Academy is an intensive program that meets 40-50 hours per week.

CR's Automotive Technology program meets the United States and Canada's highest automotive accreditation as a NATEF certified Master Automotive Service Technology.

CR's Business Program offers you a solid foundation in all aspects of business including accounting, bookkeeping and marketing strategies. Additionally, you will develop an entrepreneurial mindset, allowing you to create opportunities, solve problems and develop both a short and long-term vision for any business.

The Solar Technology Program offers certificates in both Solar Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Technologies. The entry-level program will teach you everything you need to know as you begin your career in solar technology. After foundational solar theory discussions in the classroom, you'll quickly move on to applied instruction by installing the solar panels and solar hot water heater on the CR student-built house.

The goal of CR's multifaceted Early Childhood Education (ECE) program is to train dynamic, capable and qualified teachers to meet the changing needs of our community. Many students leave our program ready to join the workforce as licensed preschool teachers or day-care site directors, while others transfer to a university to continue training in this rewarding and rapidly changing field.

Kinesiology is the study of the movement of the human body, and includes courses in sports, fitness, human anatomy and physiology. Community college courses toward an AS-T in Kinesiology may include aquatics, combatives, team sports, individual sports, fitness and dance, as well as other relevant science courses.

In addition, we are the only college in our region offering classes in the state sponsored Innovative Technology Transfer Pathway (ITTP), we call this the “pathway to a job” because it allows you to start your IT career in less than a year.

The Agriculture Program emphasizes disciplines related to the management of soil, water, air, plant and livestock resources. The program explores agriculture through the “Three E’s” of sustainability – environment, economics and social equity – allowing students to develop a holistic understanding of our food cycle from farm to table and beyond

Our Cabinet Making Certificate provides students an opportunity to work with the same modern industrial equipment that is used in professional cabinet shops and wood shops around the nation. You'll get hands-on, practical experience by building and installing all the cabinets in the CR student-built house and you'll graduate ready to join the workforce as an expert in your field.

This certificate can be obtained in 2 Semesters

The goal of CR's Residential Construction program is to get you to work. First year students will build a house – you'll pour the concrete, frame the floor, walls and roof, install the roof and wall sheathing, install exterior trim, and frame and install windows. Second year students will continue developing their carpentry skills while also gaining management experience overseeing the crew and adding skills such as construction layout and cost estimation.

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding career that is flexible and in-demand? Our Dental Assisting program will prepare you to take on the increasing sophistication of dental treatment, innovations in technology, and expanded duties of the Dental Assistant. Graduates of the two-semester program qualify to take the Dental Board of California examination for state licensure as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) and the Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) examination offered through the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).

Get Ready for College!

A noncredit Certificate of Competency preparing veterans to successfully transition to college life. This sequence of courses enables students to honor their life experiences and convert their military training into lifelong success skills. It will give students the opportunity to explore possible careers based on personal, military and vocational skills, discover veteran-specific support services available on and off campus, and develop necessary skills to nurture personal and professional development. This certificate provides an entry point for veterans to begin their education and increase their employment options.

A noncredit Certificate of Competency in mathematics. This sequence of noncredit basic mathematics courses serves as a pathway to credit-bearing mathematics courses by providing students with a foundation in arithmetic and pre-algebra. Completion of this certificate also benefits students in other programs or careers where knowledge of fundamental Mathematical concepts is essential for success.

A noncredit Certificate of Competency providing instruction in English language skills for personal and vocational use to non-native speakers of English at the intermediate level. This sequence of courses is designed for students who want focused practice on listening, speaking, reading and writing beyond survival skills or common topics. Students who complete these courses will develop practical English skills for both personal and workplace settings with a focus on educational and career goals. Workplace readiness through developing computer competency is also emphasized.

A noncredit Certificate of Competency providing instruction in community-based English language skills to non-native speakers of English at the beginning level. Students who complete these four courses will be able to communicate about basic needs and common activities in everyday social situations. Reading skills and sentence writing related to survival skills and personal topics are emphasized. Students will learn vocabulary related to career and educational options and practice basic computer skills in English.

A noncredit Certificate of Competency to help students successfully transition to college or a new career. This sequence of three courses allows students to explore their options and discover what they need to learn to be successful in reaching their academic or vocational goals. Work and college readiness is developed through instruction in reading and computer literacy to prepare students for further education or a new career.

A noncredit Certificate of Competency for students who want to build skills in the core academic subjects to prepare for a high school equivalency test. This sequence of two courses will provide students with a review of the content at the elementary and secondary level. Content is individualized and based on need.
