Prerequisite, Corequisite & Recommended Prep

Prerequisite: A course required prior to taking another course.

Corequisite: A course required to be taken simultaneously with another course.

Recommended Prep: A course recommended (but not required) prior to or taken simultaneously with another course.

Have you taken a prerequisite at another institution? Submit the Request to Clear Prerequisite Form and your transcripts (Official or Unofficial) to Admissions and Records.

Do you believe you have the experience that equals the prerequisite or corequisite?

In order to challenge the prerequisite or corequisite, complete the following steps:

  1. Obtain documentation showing sufficient academic preparation for the class
  2. Talk to a counselor or an academic advisor
  3. Complete the Prerequisite Challenge Form, attach it to your documentation and submit it to Admissions and Records


Submit Official Transcripts to Admissions and Records office. All Official Transcripts must come directly from the institution's office of registrar in an unopened, sealed envelope.

Students seeking a Degree or Certificate from College of the Redwoods that want credits earned at another institution applied towards their CR Degree must fill out and submit a Transcript Evaluation Request. Only Official Transcripts will be used for evaluations. Students requesting Transcript Evaluations must have completed 12 units with College of the Redwoods prior to submitting the request.  Please allow up to 4 weeks to process evaluations.  Students will be notified via their student email account when an evaluation has been completed.

Cal Grants

There is a four year limit for Cal Grant awards. In order to remain on track to complete a Bachelor's degree in 4 years, students need to complete 15 units per semester or 30 units per year.
