Canvas
May 7: Global Canvas Outage
Canvas is currently experiencing a systemwide outage affecting colleges across California and beyond. The issue is connected to a cybersecurity incident involving Instructure, the Canvas vendor, which is actively working toward resolution.
At this time, there is no indication that College systems outside of Canvas have been impacted.
We understand this may cause frustration and disruption, particularly for coursework and assignments, and we appreciate your patience while the issue is being addressed.
We have received reports of some users receiving an email scam message from the group that hacked Canvas. The email claims hackers have been monitoring the user’s activity on web browsers and seeks payment in Bitcoin within 48 hours to have any compromising information deleted. This is a scam and anyone receiving such a message should delete it immediately. Do not click on any links, open any attachments, download files, or respond.
Guidance for Students, Faculty and Staff:
- College of the Redwoods remains open.
- Finals are ongoing. CR is not canceling finals at this time.
- Commencement and other graduation-related events and activites remain scheduled to continue.
What to watch for:
- Unexpected messages referencing your courses, instructors, or Canvas activity.
- Anything asking you to click a link, open an attachment, or share your login.
