We have changed our name! If you’re looking for DSPS—Disability Services and Programs
for Students—you're in the right place. We changed our name to be more inclusive for
students who don’t identify with the terms “disability” and “disabled.” We’re not
about labels, we’re about supporting students and providing greater access to education
for students with health conditions. Hence our new name: Student Accessibility Support
Services (SASS).
The primary objective of the SASS office is to assure educational access for students with disabilities and diagnosed physical and mental health conditions. SASS concentrates its efforts on providing services that are not available elsewhere at CR in order to support students with learning differences in overcoming barriers to their success. SASS operates under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 504 and 508 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, and Title 5 of California Education Code.

How does a student become a part SASS?
The SASS application is available online. Please contact the SASS office if you need the application in another format. The primary requirement for admission to SASS is documentation (such as an IEP or 504, medical records, a letter from a health provider, testing results, or prescriptions) verifying a health diagnosis. SASS can reach out to your provider on your behalf if you apply without attaching verifying documentation. Students without a formal diagnosis or access to verifying documentation are encouraged to contact the SASS office for assistance.
If a student does not have a diagnosis but finds that they have serious academic difficulties with their classes, they may have an unidentified learning disability. SASS department for referral to GUID 143, a course which includes information about and testing for a learning disability. If a student is determined to have a learning disability through this course, then the testing will serve as verification for participation in SASS.

SASS Support Classes
SASS offers courses for academic support through the LIGHT Center, Adaptive Physical Education, and Living Skills.
SASS is a member of the North Coast Aging & Disability Resource Connection (ADRC). The North Coast ADRC provides people of all ages, income levels and abilities with equitable access to information, assistance, and support needed to live independently.
ADRC extended partners are dedicated to increasing consumer access to services, diverting persons with disabilities and older adults from unnecessary institutionalization, and supporting a streamlined “No Wrong Door” referral process for the four ADRC core services:
1) Enhanced Information and Assistance | Referral: Provides comprehensive resource information, follow-ups, and referrals via “warm hand-offs.”
2) Person-Centered Options Counseling: Assists in identifying goals and needs through person centered counseling and coordinating access to public and private-funded long-term services and services in the community.
3) Short-Term Service Coordination: Expedited access to services and support for individuals at risk of institutionalization, generally for 90 days or less, until a long-term plan is in place.
4) Transition Support: Assistance for individuals who are currently in a hospital, skilled nursing facility or other institution and wish to receive long term services and support at home or in a community-based setting.
Information and resources offered by the ADRC may be found on the ADRC website. Contact SASS if you would like assistance with accessing ADRC support services.
