I relocated to Humboldt County after spending ten years in Northern California for the opportunity to teach and lead the Music program at College of the Redwoods. I am a composer, performer, and music theorist, and my work spans a wide range of styles, from pop and rock to jazz and experimental concert music. I love creating, performing, singing, and writing about music in all its forms.

My teaching style is very hands-on and interactive. I believe the best way to learn music is by doing, so students in my classes actively perform, compose, listen to, and notate music. I want students to engage fully in the music-making process and develop the tools to express themselves creatively.

A strong desire to cultivate one’s own creative voice is one of the most important qualities for success in studying music. Hard work and commitment are equally important. Music studies can lead to a wide variety of career paths including performance, composition, arranging, conducting, producing, engineering, education, music therapy, arts administration, and fields like music publishing, journalism, or management.

What I enjoy most about CR so far is working alongside such dedicated faculty, staff, and students.
