Pete Korin brings over 30 years of nursing experience to College of the Redwoods, with a career spanning emergency response and emergency room nursing across Southern California and Las Vegas. He also has extensive experience in correctional nursing and administration. Pete’s path to teaching was a natural progression, he has always valued sharing knowledge and mentoring others, seeing teaching as an essential part of being a nurse. His collaboration with Jessica Howard to provide clinical experiences for nursing students at Pelican Bay State Prison sparked his interest in joining CR and pursuing a career in education.
Pete’s teaching style is animated and dynamic. He draws from his own professional stories and experiences to reinforce course content, helping students remember and apply what they learn. He also values student feedback, adapting his approach to meet their needs.
He encourages students to develop regular study routines and make the material their own. Techniques like mind-mapping can help students internalize concepts and translate them effectively to clinical settings.
Pete says he most enjoys the combination of helping students grow and working alongside supportive colleagues. “The faculty have been 100% wonderful,” he notes. “Everyone is so willing to help and share ideas, and questions are always addressed in a timely and pleasant manner.”
At College of the Redwoods, Pete currently teaches first-semester LVN students. He has previously instructed CNA students and fourth-semester RN students, sharing his extensive professional experience with every class.
