BioBlitz

Apr 7 2025

What is a BioBlitz?

A BioBlitz is a community effort to
record as many species as possible
at a designated location and time.
Do I need to already know
a lot about nature?
Nope. You just need to
want to explore.

Do I need to come at 6am?

Do I need to stay the whole time?
Nope. 6am is for folks who want
to catch the birds as they wake
up. Come any time you want and
stay for as little or long as you like.

Can I bring my friends? Family? Dog?
Absolutely yes to friends
and family! Please don’t
bring pets other than service
animals because they can
scare wildlife away.

What if I’m only interested in
a certain group of organsims?

Great! You can spend all your
time focusing on your favorites.

How do I prepare?

Go to iNaturalist.org and make
an account and download
the app to your smartphone.
iNaturalist collects natural history
observations of lay people
and professionals worldwide.
You see an organism, you
photograph it, and you upload
the photo. iNaturalist helps you
ID the organism and records
it.
We will be recording all
our finds in the iNaturalist
Spring 2025 College of the
Redwoods BioBlitz online.
What if I don’t have
a smartphone?

Come anyway! The more eyes
the better, and if you have a
digital camera you can still upload
photos using a computer.
