At its October 7, 2025 meeting, the College of the Redwoods Board of Trustees granted Emeritus status to two longtime faculty members, Dr. Peter Blakemore and Marla Gleave, in recognition of their outstanding service and contributions to the College and community.

Marla Gleave served CR for 32 years. First as an associate professor beginning in 1993 and later as full-time faculty starting in 1999. Her many roles include Women’s Basketball Coach, Women’s Volleyball Coach, Senate Co-President, Academic Standards & Policies Committee Chair, Dean of Career & Technical Education, Articulation Officer, and long-serving member of the Curriculum and Guided Pathways committees.

Dr. Peter Blakemore joined CR in 2002 as a tenure-track English faculty member and retired at the end of the 2024–25 academic year. Over his tenure, he led transformative efforts in English instruction (including implementing AB 705/1705 reforms), chaired the English Department, chaired the Curriculum Committee, served as both vice president and president of the CR Faculty Organization, led as Dean of Math and Science, served as Executive Dean of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and acted as Accreditation Liaison Officer and Self-Study co-author for CR’s 2023 Institutional Self-Evaluation Report.

Both will receive a Certificate of Emeritus status, a permanent ID card denoting their Emeritus title, complimentary admission to College events, and the right to use “Emeritus” in their professional work.

College of the Redwoods is proud to acknowledge Marla and Peter’s decades of service, leadership, and positive impact on students, faculty, and the broader community.
