Nchekwube Drafted Third Overall in Taiwan's P-League
Published on Sep 26 2025In a historic moment for College of the Redwoods athletics, former men’s basketball standout Jon Nchekwube was drafted with the third overall pick in the P-League draft, Taiwan’s premier professional basketball league. Nchekwube will begin his professional career with the Taipei Fubon Braves, one of the league’s most competitive teams.
Originally from Eugene, Oregon, Nchekwube played at CR from 2021 to 2023, quickly
establishing himself as a dominant presence on the court. During his two years with
the program, he became a two-time First Team All-American, two-time First Team All-State,
and earned Golden Valley Conference Player of the Year honors. He helped lead the
team to two conference championships and a run in the California Sweet 16.
Nchekwube’s impact extended beyond accolades. He left CR as the program’s all-time leading rebounder and also set the record as the all-time leading rebounder in California Community College men’s basketball history—a remarkable achievement that cements his legacy.
Reflecting on Nchekwube’s success, CR Athletic Director Ryan Bisio said
“We’re celebrating this historic achievement with Jon and his family and feel so lucky
to have seen first-hand what a transformation he made as a student athlete and young
man during his time at College of the Redwoods. I know his coaches, former teammates,
and our community is aware of how remarkable of a contribution he made to CR men’s
basketball. We’ll continue to stay connected to him and cheer him on as he catapults
into his professional basketball career. Jon will always be an important part of our
CR family.”
With his name now called on draft day, Nchekwube steps onto the international stage, carrying with him the spirit of CR basketball and a legacy that will inspire future student-athletes at College of the Redwoods.
