College of the Redwoods Del Norte Campus Project Moving Forward with Measure I Funding

Published on Feb 4 2026

Although construction activity is not yet visible at the College of the Redwoods Crescent City campus, the Del Norte Healthcare and Campus Revitalization Project is steadily advancing thanks to voter-approved Measure I funds. Early planning, permitting, and design work are underway, laying the essential groundwork for future construction.

The College is partnering with tBP Architects and working with the California Department of State Architecture (DSA), the state agency required to review and approve public school construction plans, to ensure all designs meet mandated safety, accessibility, and structural standards. This review process is a required step for all community college building projects prior to construction. The College is also working through the Conditional Use Permit process with Del Norte County staff, along with geotechnical studies required by the California Geological Survey.

The project scope includes a new healthcare education facility, updated classrooms, HVAC system upgrades, improved ADA accessibility, and demolition of outdated modular buildings. Modernization construction is estimated to begin in October 2026, with healthcare building construction anticipated to follow in May 2027.

“College of the Redwoods opened at its current location in Crescent City in 1981. Since that time, the College has served the students and community of Del Norte County with distinction,” said Don Olson, President of the College of the Redwoods Foundation and a Del Norte County resident. “Measure I funding will significantly enhance and provide much-needed upgrades to the healthcare programs at CR Del Norte. Together, College of the Redwoods, the Del Norte Healthcare District, and community stakeholders are making a meaningful investment in strengthening the overall healthcare infrastructure of Del Norte County.”

Measure I, approved by local voters in 2024, funds priority capital improvements across the Redwoods Community College District. All Measure I projects are subject to independent oversight and public reporting to ensure transparency and responsible use of public funds.

Community members are encouraged to follow project updates and view detailed information about Measure I projects at www.redwoods.edu/services/bo/2024bond.

“This project reflects our long-term commitment to Del Norte County and to the students who rely on this campus,” said CR President Dr. Keith Flamer. “We’re excited about what this next phase will bring and are being deliberate now so that, when construction begins, we’re delivering facilities that truly meet the needs of the community.”

College of the Redwoods remains committed to keeping the Del Norte community informed as the project progresses from design to construction and will continue to share updates as key milestones are reached.
